Last week of October ending in what I hope is at least a dry Halloween for the trick or treaters. Temps will be in the 50s and will feel even colder when it gets dark. Rainy week, too, with Halloween 50% chance. I hope everyone, rain or shine, warm or cold, has an awesome opossum day!

We have power again after a major outage - 100,000 customers lost power in a windstorm yesterday. Trees were uprooted and roads were blocked. City Light did a heroic job getting most of us back up again, although some won't have any until later. We had at first gotten an estimate of late Tuesday! Still dark, windy and rainy here but that's bog standard for this time of year.
Poor Jamie was so upset with the sudden weird darkness that she cried all night. Nothing would help.

Power went out again right after i posted - we're back to using headlamps and Jamie started crying and howling again as soon as it got dark outside. Bleh.

I hope your power comes back on and stays on asap. Poor Jamie. Does holding her or at least letting her know you're close help?

No wonder it felt cold in here this morning. This is the time of year when DH turns on the a/c and I turn on the heat and, sure enough, the a/c was on. Made a quick trip to the grocery store, came home and it was actually too warm so turned off the heat and will wait until it gets cold enough to turn it back on. I'm really cutting back on shopping other than necessities or occasional cheap splurge because heating costs are going way up this winter and I'm sure our rent, which we have to pay all utilities, will also go up.
Kritter- it's currently 49 degrees here and might only go up a few degrees.

Stay, have you tried putting up insulated curtains over your windows and using draft blockers on the doors? They really make a difference and aren't that expensive, plus they aren't permanent fixes so renters can use them. Keep the curtains closed at night and they really do block out the cold (or retain the heat, take your pick LOL). We had an unusually bad cold week in ABQ one winter, complete with snow, freezing daytime temps and single digit nighttime temps (not the norm for ABQ). I had gaps in the door so at night I'd take wide masking tape and tape over the gap, taping on the door and frame. It was surprising how much it helped. It was a cheap fix that could easily be removed in an emergency (as in, just open the door ) For the deep freeze here last year, I hung up some sofa fleece throws over the bedroom windows temporarily and it really helped (they were all I had that were light enough hang).

Shorts and sandals here now. I would be so sad if it was in the 40s here.
83 here now but we are getting a cold front tonight so daytime temps will be in the high 70s to low 80s for the next week with night time lows in the 50s.
Time to get out the fleece sheets.
Was just at Walmart and it is a Christmas Winter wonderland in the Garden Dept. I love it.

Omg for some reason I read that as fleece shorts I was thinking only here in TX do we need fleece shorts lol. Stupidly hot here and I am waiting on that front in the morning!! And they are still saying nice weather for Halloween so I'm hoping we get a lot of kids. DD in Portland just sent me a few pics of the wonderful colorful fall leaves. If we get any color here it won't be till the end of next month.
We had a nice visit with mom Saturday and she enjoyed her meal. She also enjoyed all my Halloween decor and after the visit my sister took her for a drive around to see the Halloween decorations. In my neighborhood there's some pretty neat ones. I have seen 2 of the 12' skeletons, and two of 12' jack o lantern monster ones, too. They are so cool.
Chap I sure hope your power is back by now. I heard about the bad weather in the pacific NW, I hope it has passed over by now.

The thing I hate is we're pretty frugal when it comes to utilities. Unfortunately, everything's split evenly (unsure if it's by type of apartment or across the board). I did, however, take Val's advice and just ordered several pairs of thermal blackout drapes so will have to pick up a few cheap rods to hang them up. Can't hurt since the windows are anything but energy efficient and it's only going to get colder. Plus, we're on the top floor and on a corner so get full brunt of it.

Our power has been on for an entire 24 hours! It's still very squally out - we have months of squalls but they're usually not as raucous as we've had. We've had worse, though - one was so bad that a destroyer got loose from its moorings in Elliot Bay and ran down onto another ship, and there were sailboats everywhere that had lost their moorings. People in the houseboats had to be evacuated. We did NOT have 5 inches of rain like they did in Sacramento, though!
When I had my house in town I lived on a quite steep hill that dropped off into a ravine about three blocks down from me. The ravine had a guardrail before it. Every time we had a storm we'd hear the banging clang of garbage cans being blown into the street and then bang and roll down down down to finally crash into the guardrail. Next morning people would philosophically tromp down to the bottom of the hill, find their trash cans and drag them back up again. Didn't matter where you tried to shelter them, somehow they'd get loose. Sometimes the lids would get loose and you might see one skimming along lol.

Didn't we just have something for black cats a few months back? I remember posting a pic of Toby for it. The other kitties are getting jealous. Simon wants to know when National Ginger Cat Day is. Internet and wifi modems have been set up, computers connected to new internet and service with AT&T has been canceled. The new cell phone is charging, and once it's charged I'll attempt to switch my old phone over to the new one. I'm also changing carriers but keeping the same number so this should be interesting. Or amusing, it could go either way Toby decided he would eat the rubber mats I had in the kitchen since there were no boxes handy. I replaced the mats with regular rugs. Now he and Simon have fun playing with toys in the rugs. I have to straighten them out in the mornings (along with the bathroom rugs) but at least he's not eating the rug. Simon's new love is the metal stopper for the kitchen sink. He brings it to me in the mornings in bed so I'll throw it and he can fetch it. He was so cute I didn't have the heart to get on to him so I now hide the stopper in the junk drawer when it's not being used for dishwashing.

It is such a neat rug. I really like it. It is also very easy to keep clean which is definitely a plus in a foster bedroom.

Terrell was doing a lot better after 6 weeks on double antibiotics so we took him off the meds. No sores, hair growing back nicely, taking adoption photos, the whole shebang.
10 days later I noticed new hair loss and oozing sores again. Back to the vet and now on double antibiotics again for 4 weeks until next vet visit. It is a wonder that he lets me get anywhere near him anymore since I am throwing meds down his throat 3 times a day every day.
Terrell is a great lil cat and I am determined to get him fixed and adoptable no matter how long it takes. It has become the principle of the thing now. This infection will not win.

Great day here in SEPA. Yesterday was a bed day until work time so I didn’t get to enjoy the sun. Did get out at work but didn’t walk. I was overly tired so I relaxed.
PF is back. Holding off on another shot as I have to pace it and make sure I can get through the winter break at work without too much agony. Want to get one the second or third week in December.

Awwww, poor Terrell. Maybe he realizes how much better he felt last round of antibiotics so doesn't mind this round if it makes him feel better again. He deserves a great furrever home like Barney. You sure are a cat whisperer, kritter. How rewarding it must be to see the end result of all your hard work and dedication seeing kittens and cats going to loving homes. Sorry to hear about the PF returning, labbypaws. If you're not already doing these, maybe these exercises will help: www.choosept.com/health-tips/six-exercises-plantar-fasciitis-heel-painI am so glad to get my trip to the license bureau over with. Had to renew driver's license and hate hate hate that eye test and squeaked by. Also took one of the crappiest pics that I'll have to live with for the next 8 years, lol. It was nice to get out and enjoy a dry, sunny day before rain sets in tonight through at least Saturday.

The DL department here requires appointments due to COVID (fine by me), but when I went to schedule it last month, the next available was Dec 22. Seriously, Texas? This state needs to move into the current century and authorize businesses to operate as MVD satellite offices like so many other states do now. It's good that the people here are nice and friendly, they make up for the backwards government in this state. Hopefully no one will want to get their license that close to Christmas and they won't be running behind and I can get in and out fast.

There is an option to schedule appointments, but not required and there weren't a lot of people there. Masks weren't required and only a couple other people wore them. I swear there's a correlation between length of time on a driver's license that determines how crappy your picture will turn out. They give you a photocopy what it will look like. DH had a good laugh until I reminded him his didn't turn out so hot, either. Now I wait and see how long it takes to process and receive my new license in the mail. With first class mail slowing down, I wanted to go early to give it plenty of time.

Chap I hope you have power soon. Our power came on and has been staying on - we had our fingers crossed yesterday as it was quite windy, but all is still good. Now it's just raining. There is so much grot n' gribble on the roads that sometimes you have to plough through leaves!
