Wow I can't believe it's already this far into October! We finally had some fall weather and a lovely weekend so that was really nice. And a nice visit with mom Saturday. It was about 68 and we sat outside and she wore a knit hat lol. We are having a meal here this Saturday. I'm going to make some dairy free cookies Friday, my sister has developed IBS in the last few years and really can't do dairy. I hope they come out well.
We went to the Goodwill yesterday, pretty dud-ish. It seems like they have the same old stuff and don't turn their inventory very fast. And the "Halloween" section was a joke. Sigh.
I went and got a haircut this morning. Since cases are down and I figured Monday wouldn't be very crowded (and was not). I went to Great Clips and saw on my receipt "Senior haircut". Not sure if I'm pleased or insulted .
We did youngest DD's birthday meal yesterday. We made this vegan pasta dish that we had made before. It tasted kind of vinegary. I thought it was the parosomia but we realized we had used white wine vinegar instead of white cooking wine. Oh well, the cake came out well and that's the most important

jesmelric - embrace the 'senior' - it freaked me out at first, too. Now I want that ball cap that says "Where Is My Senior Discount?" - particularly when I found how much $$ I could save.

Isabella started her first ever job at Big Lots this morning and got the experience all the paperwork needed to be employed LOL She's super excited and I think this will be a good job for her. They hired her right away after the interview on Saturday. It's minimum wage ($14.00 an hour tho!) and roughly 20-24 hours a week. She will be making about twice what her rent is, so she will have lots of spending money LOL. I'm really hoping she has a good day. I love that girl so much! Today is also my best friend's birthday. He is the first of us to turn 50 (I will be following in February). We've been friend's since we were about 13 or so. It's hard to fathom that we are now our parent's age when we first became friends. LOL

I didn't order as many cat toys as Kritter did but then, I don't have as many cats. Thanks for the heads up Kritter! The cats are getting some cute halloween toys. They're also getting another one of the raised round beds and a cat window perch that I've been holding off on buying. They were both on sale and came to $60.39, enough for me to get the $30 Chewy egift card (you had to spend $60 to qualify). How could I not buy them with a deal like that?
The kitties were on the balcony this morning when the landscape guys fired up the leaf blowers. Even though I'm on the second floor, it still scares Toby and Trixie. Simon, however, watched those guys like a hawk until they were out of sight. He even stalked them when they were blowing in front of my building. He kept moving down the patio as they moved. It was cute to watch. He wasn't scared, either. He was sitting upright, at one point lounging in the chair as he watched them. The maintenance guys came in to install a USB outlet and he ran when they knocked on the door, but I noticed him peeking around the bedroom doorway while they were here and he wandered into the living room in less than a minute after they left. The other two stayed hidden for awhile.

You would be losing money if you didn't grab that deal.
I didn't look at the stuff on that deal but may take a second look tonight.
I get 6% cash back on Chewy so I always use that as another incentive to buy.

Hope LabbyPup is feeling better!
Our cat urps on a regular basis, but just little ones. Right now she's on a marathon meow and won't shut up - it's driving me crazy. Next week starts Hell Week at Orange Theory - it will be interesting. I have a feeling we had a sample workout this evening - it was so hard that even the fit 20-somethings were gasping and we were on the floor between circuits recovering. It was good training, though I was so hyperactive when I got home that I'm still bouncing off the walls. Hell Week is almost 5 days in a row of this. It's a lot easier to go through this with a band of loonies, though. We all get shirts at the end of it.

I guess I probably haven't mentioned it, but since Isabella moved out and took Periwinkle with her, Evan got a kitty from a friend of his. 'Mister' is about 3 years old and we've been slowly introducing him to the home and to Gypsy. He's been here for about 2 weeks or so and we have finally let him roam the rest of the apartment. He's been exploring and there have been a couple of stand-offs. He likes to stalk Gypsy, who can't really tell if he's serious or playing (he's playing). So, she does her usual hissing and growling, but that has died down and now it's more like she just ignores him. I would venture to guess sometime next week, they will be sniffing each other's butts and sharing a food dish. He's a very curious cat, who is very cuddly, but still has his moments where he's skittish and will try to scratch. Evan loves him and Mister sleeps with him every night, so they are very much like Peri and Bella, two peas in a pod. Ignore the mess. I'm rearranging things while Mom is away.

Cute cats, Jeremy! I signed up for Spectrum services on Saturday. The equipment arrived yesterday in an insanely huge box. I called this morning to cancel it all (I really don't need cable TV for what they were charging) and ended up getting faster internet with them for what I'm paying now with AT&T, plus I changed over my cellphone service and have a new phone coming in. Faster internet and better cell plan for less than I was paying AT&T and Sprint.

Jeremy-which cat is Gypsy? The black and orange one looks like my cat that I had for 23 years. Half of her face was black, and the other half was orange.
She was so mean and nasty. I could pet her ONCE, and then she would attack.

Oh gawd - I already poop like a champion even though I'm a has-been! Funny advert! "Be the master of your movements." I *think* Gypsy is the black and orange larger cat - and that cute little fluff ball is Mister?

I sent the ad to GA friend who did further research and let me know it contains psyllium, the same ingredient in Metamucil. To me, that's like cheating. I finally scrolled all the way down to see they also make gummies and a beverage. The reviews are also hilarious.
Yes, Gypsy's the large orange and black. I remember Jeremy saying the cat blocking the escalator video looked looked like her:

I came home today and they were both sleeping on the couch about 6 inches from each other. I guess Gypsy tolerates him now.

Went to a Costco for dog food (giving their brand a try as the Chewy and the pet food stores are charging a fortune) and protein bars. Forgot the dang protein bars.

I'm trying When DH turned 55 we went to Denny's and he got a senior meal. Now that I'm 55 it's a stupid pandemic and I don't even want to eat in a restaurant, I guess I better appreciate any senior discounts I can enjoy now.
Wow that's a bold move naming your cereal Poop Like a Champion! Talk about something that's ripe for a senior discount lol. Older DD got me some low carb Magic Spoon cereal and it's really good but it is very expensive to be anything other than a special treat.
Well our cool front quickly departed and we are almost back to summer here. Next front isn't till next week, but if we are lucky maybe we will have some nice weather for Halloween and get a lot of trick or treaters. Or I will have a freezer full of candy again this year.
Sweet kitties Jeremy

I eat cereal to get the carbs, so a low carb cereal would be weird for me - I'll eat a bowl before a run or bike ride, for instance (I try not to snack on it) because carbs have good quick energy availability (and it burns the other food).
We're noticing weird pet food shortages here - our cat (who used to eat almost anything) has gotten very picky in her old age and only wants Fancy Feast, but the shelves are often bare in stores. I go to Mudd Bay and get little pricey cans of things and even they are sometimes out of a lot of stuff. It used to be they ate 'working cat' Friskies we purchased in bulk from Sam's Club and loved it, but they were younger, hungrier cats. I notice my appetite is shaky as I get older, too, so I understand.
But a week or two will go by with shelves bare with some types of pet food.
But there are shortages of this or that human food, too - I just opt to eat something else I *can* get but Leafy Butt doesn't.

A/C is back on because temps went back in 70s, but today is probably the last day the outside world will see my bare arms as temps will drop once again. Latest forecast is a rollercoaster that temps are supposed to start rising again after this week but won't hold my breath for it.
It was so nice to be out and about and catching up on stocking up for the winter in warm, sunny weather and not a lot of traffic or other shoppers. I even stopped at Volunteers of America, but it was pretty much a bust except for another metal dvd tower I saved over 75% vs. buying one at WM or Target and it's like new.

That is what led me to Costco for pet food. Then price shopping has really led me there. Just trying to figure out if the lamb would cover the SD sensitive skin and stomach or not.

PSA.... FREE BURRITO'S AT TACO BELL TODAY 10/21/21 from 7-11 AM... I should have posted this sooner www.tacobell.com/news/wake-up-call-with-free-burritos-october-21Not much new here. My roof project hasn't gone as seamlessly as I was expecting. I suppose hiccups are to be expected when you're replacing a roof that is almost 40 years old. Crazy that it was that old and held up with no issues. There is a skylight in the master bath. I'll be nervous the next time it rains. Hopefully tenants will be home to keep an eye on it. I know she's a little nervous about it too. Just ordered some Colorstreet nails. Has anyone tried them?

We have to get up on our roofs twice a year at least to clean them and lay down moss killer or they come apart in under 20 years - one of our neighbours let hers go for a year and had to get a professional to get up there because it got so bad. What happens is that the moss digs right in there and the shingles start coming apart. I've seen some roofs in my neighbourhood that people have just give up on and they look like hobbit houses. I even saw a tiny sapling growing on one!

We don't have that problem here. Just extreme heat and wind and in the summer. Can't believe it held on for as long as it did. When I bought it in 2011 the guy who did the inspection noted that it needed a roof replacement. Put it off for a few years then got some estimates, one guy told me flat out that the roof had at least two more years and not to let anyone tell me that it needed an immediate replacement which I appreciated.

That's actually a very good long time given extreme temps like that - nice to find an honest estimator! Our weather isn't extreme temp wise, but it's so damp that there's moss and mold on everything and it affects longevity. For a while people were getting zinc roofs but moss grows on those, too. I'd think extreme temps would be harder on it, though. Our squalls are starting to blow in and we lost our power today - fortunately, it was also weirdly warm. I mis-calculated my schedule and ended up with two Orange Theory workouts in a row, when I had just had one on Monday. I gamely went (those classes aren't cheap) - since we didn't have any power anyway, why not? I'm feeling a bit beat up, but we got our power back on soon after I got home so yay! Whatever happened did enough damage that the road just up the ravine from my house had to be blocked. The roads are covered with grot that blew down from the trees. In fact, in just going from my front door to the car, I got bits of fir tree blown into my hair!
