Good morning everyone! Enjoying the last throngs of summer type weather. Leaves are changing and falling off pretty fast so the colorful scenery won't last much longer. Hope everyone has a superduperdelicious day today!

Fall break for the students at work so it should be fairly quiet until Friday. Overcast but cool today. Did 5 miles.

My roof replacement got pushed back a few days due to rain last week. Today is the big day. Our weather is just about perfect. 83 today then a cool down with 69 tomorrow. We wait a good part of the year for this. Excited about not having to go to the post office today. Have some listing to do and a few errands. Getting a hair cut tomorrow and I'm hoping to change up my style a little bit. Not sure if I'd call it a style, it's practically one length but very thick and I'm ready to get rid of some of it. Seems like by 50 most people have found a style that suits them well, I'm still trying to find mine.

I finally found my style during the pandemic. I cut my hair myself. Separate it into two sections at the front and just cut straight across each side. Takes less than 30 seconds. Oh, I wish I had thick hair as I did in my youth. It's been falling out at the top front for the last year. The only good news is that's where my gray hair is so now I don't have to color it either. Future plans would be... a hat.

Inherited my thick mop from my mom. Along with premature graying. By accident quite a few years ago I found an affordable stylist that I like. She charges around 20 for a cut and does a better job than some places I've been to that charge for the pricey "level" stylist cuts. Even better, she was right across the street from where I lived. Now she's about 15 minutes away but I don't mind. Plus there's a GW right next door

Future plans would be... a hat. We've been giving DH a burr during the pandemic and in just messing around we tried a mohawk (kind of a modified one) and I love it!! I hope he keeps it. Nothing like finding your style in your 50s lol. I hair that's rather unruly and also a weird cowlick in the front that requires me to part my hair on the side. Oh how I hated it as a teenager. It's a good thing you figure out what's important when you grow up lol. But I do wish we had flat irons when I was a teen, I think it would have changed my life
Today is oldest dd's birthday. I can't believe she's 35! Youngest DD will be 27 on Wednesday. Somehow I managed to have them two days but 8 years apart. Older DD and I had a nice video chat on Saturday while she opened her package. And I will make a birthday meal for younger DD Saturday. She's a vegan (mostly) so that's usually a challenge. But she wants a regular cake
We had a nice visit with mom Saturday. My sister asked mom about maybe seeing if she can be moved from the lock down unit now that the confusion has cleared. Mom was commenting on how weird some of the people there are. But we are concerned (herself included) that the change could bring the confusion back and she doesn't want to leave the roommate she has become friendly with.
Heavy thunderstorms early this morning but luckily they cleared in time for Janey's walk. Still pretty hot here though. Sigh. And then a fun morning defrosting the deep freeze. It's one of those things you really hate doing but then are super glad when it's done. Then you have to keep looking at it because it came out so well lol.

Future plans would be... a hat. I bought a Wahl clipper set and now cut my own. It's great for the sides and the back, although I still haven't quite mastered the back hairline trim part. The top I cut with hair scissors and then add a little definition with the texturizing scissors. I'm getting better at merging the clipper sections with the top (top being slightly longer). It's not as good as a salon, but it's good enough for me since my hair is short and layered and I don't go anywhere important anyway. I need to color it tonight and then I'm due for a cut tomorrow.

Sounds like your foot's feeling good again, labbypaws, to walk 5 miles.
jesmetic- glad Mom's doing well and sounds like she's still got a pretty good head on her shoulders to realize a move might not be a good idea.
I'm happy to say I'm heading towards 64 and most of my hair is still original brown color, though the gray is starting to catch up. I've had the same hair style since I was 18 that was called an "afro" and now the more politically correct "curly style". My hair's very fine and straight and it's the only perm that makes it look like I have more hair than I really do. I get it short or medium and let it grow til it looks like crap and then get it done. My regular stylist retired a couple years ago and the one who does it now does a great job, too. I just tell her shorter or longer or tighter or looser curl and let her do her thing.

Seeing how long the shot lasts plus I am taking 500 mg alleve twice a day. I was checking out a new street on the perimeter of my route. That is how I ended up at 5 miles.

Well darn. The hair color was a bust. I didn't leave it on long enough so it's yellow instead of platinum. On the bright side, it's now light enough that I can use lavender or pale pink hair color, so I ordered some. Should be here Friday. Good thing I'm old enough now not to care what color my hair comes out

My hair was black until I went through (1) Business failure (2) Job loss (3) Divorce (importance in that order) all at once. My hair went white in a year - I'd heard of that but actually didn't think it really happened. So now I have to have it dyed black because, no, I'm not going for the white, I'm too day-glo in hue for that and it didn't even go silver first. However, lately, I've been thinking it might be cool to have it cobalt blue or something. It's thin and fine and really not worth much of anything save to cover my head. I wear it pulled back like Ruth Bader Ginsberg in a pony tail.
staytuned - I kept reading your post as "the last thongs of summer" and was really intrigued as to what you were up to over there!
We had our Dawg Dash yesterday - met at the train and took it to the start line. As we were riding along I felt like I was FINALLY in a civilized, modern city with easy, quick public transportation. We had a great time at the Dash - it's only the second actual race I've been in since 2019 and you could feel the excitement as thousands showed up to the first race in two years - it's a big event - everyone was masked and divided into small waves until we started running and the pack spread out, then you could take off your mask (we had to show vax cards to even enter). Lots of dogs (it IS a Dawg dash). We ran the race, then after watching the winners podium started back up north to where we had parked our cars - we ran and ran and then as we passed one of the train stations my friend "what do you think"? As one we ran toward the station and hopped onto the train LOL - when we got off a few minutes later there was a stinging cold rain. That was OK, except we weren't dressed for it and were soaked by the time we got to the pub - but it was still a good call to take the train the last few miles. But brunch solved a lot.

I threw in the towel and went full gray a couple of years ago because, being a procrastinator and hating the chemicals involved, I always ended up with a skunk-stripe of white on my dark brown hair because I delayed dyeing my hair. Now it's a mottled but natural gray with some brown streaks. If I ever add any color it's gonna be a pink, purple or something whimsical... something I can giggle about when I see it :-)
We're into classic Oregon Fall weather finally- rainy days & gorgeous sunny days. Today I'm gonna use my fire pit and have a nice smoky blaze on the patio. It's my night to make dinner- I should hand the family long sticks and say we're having wieners & beans for dinner, lol! Hmmm, it could happen!

I had to scroll up to make sure I didn't have a typo. I tried a thong back when it was the "in" thing. At first I thought it wasn't bad, but after about 10 minutes I decided flossing in between my butt cheeks wasn't for me.
Sounds like you had a really good time, Chap. It amazes me how you can get soaked in less than optimal temps and not wind up sick. The only time I can do that is down in MB when it's sunny and hot enough to dry off quickly.
Looks like the last week of 70s and going down to 60s all next week. I have a lot of hoodies and jackets so looking forward to finally having a chance to wear them. Enjoying being outdoors in short sleeves while it lasts.

Stay - I think you just get used to it. I've spent half my life, it seems, soaked and splatted with dirt, and when I find raincoats at the thrifts to sell, most of them have mud or dirt on the hems. The saying here is "there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes" - which is very Scandinavian, like the socks with sandals thing.
A good friend of mine has gray-white hair, but it's thick and she recently cut it to just above shoulder length and it looks really chic - how she had it cut takes advantage of the natural wave. She looks years younger with the new style and the colour is very attractive and glistens in the light. No way would my hair do that - it needs to stay just its plain old black as it has always been unless I give it some other dark colour.
In the early 80s I had a mohawk (I had more hair in those days) - back then there wasn't Manic Panic and other alternative dyes, and we used either cellophane colour if your hair was light, or in my case threw peroxide in it. I loved my purple mohawk. Used Knox Gelatin in half dilution to keep it cemented in that nice even ridge (I didn't have the spikes a lot of the other punks did as I did have to tone it down for work - fortunately, I was always working 'in the back' in a charity hospital and no one cared much as long as it wasn't too outrageous).

I took advantage of 30% off promo from Marco's Pizza and apparently wasn't paying full attention and didn't realize until I hit "submit" to pre-order online that what I thought was a White Cheezy pizza was a Chicken Fresco (pics look similar and guess I forgot to actually read, lol). No option to cancel so figured might as well try it. Actually pretty good so it was a good "duh".
It's like squirrels gone wild all over our apartment complex and I really wish a hawk or few would fly by and get the population under control.

^^^This. No matter what, everytime I see a thong, I automatically think, "Butt floss!" lol

Never heard of a "frog strangler". That's a keeper.
I really wish Jennifer from Genetics America would figure out we're not interested in a (supposedly) free diabetic tester and stop calling. At least it's down to 2-3 times a day from the 6-8 previously. I googled and found there are different numbers that call, so if I did pick up and press 2 to be put on "do not call list", another number would take over. Will just wait til it fizzles out like Rachel from Cardholder Services. DH and I did laugh the other night when the phone rang around 8:30pm, answering machine came on and woman asked for DH by his first name, then must have realized she was being recorded and hung up right away. We need a "robocall strangler".

Yep, looks like we are in for a frog strangler.
We've been trying to catch some frogs which start "singing" in our pool in the middle of the night. We go out before bedtime, but they're usually not visible or audible that early. Then later in the night they wake me and I have to turn on my sound machine. A few nights ago after a short, hard rain before bedtime I was not wakened during the night. I told my husband the next morning that the rain must have been a true "frog strangler". It's a description I've heard all my life. I'm guess it's probably common not only in Texas, but also in the Deep South.

I have always heard "frog strangler" from way back too.
Best way to catch frogs is wait until it is totally dark and then go out with a flashlight and shine it in their eyes. They won't move and you can easily catch them.
Used to be a lot of frogs out by my backyard pond but all gone years ago. I couldn't stand their noise either when trying to sleep or just really anytime.

We get a lot of scam calls. Apparently someone rented a car in my name and it was involved in a crime in Texas. I'm sending them some cash to clear up this mess.
Yeh, right.

Sometimes they don't present their eyes at the right angle & they swim away. We did catch a couple about a week ago, but lately they've been smart and don't get into the pool & croak until we've gone to sleep. We have lepoard frogs. We did catch a bullfrog several years ago.

Not expecting too much rain here, I think a 40% chance tomorrow for us.
I am getting those stupid Genetics America calls too!! It's making me crazy. I just read that new FCC rules are kicking in that will mean less calls, and I am getting MORE!! I get a ton of Scam Likely on my cell. And I rarely answer my voip phone and I'm telling you some days I get 10 B.S. calls. I'm on the registry for both phones, too.
