Sunset-prayers for your DD. That is so scary when people shoot off bridges to cars passing below. Or they throw rocks.

They have not confirmed whether it was self inflicted or not. Sad situation.

I will NOT turn on my furnace. I will NOT turn on my furnace! It went down to 40 last night and my house is 67. But I am holding firm here.

My heat would have been turned on at the forecast of a temp drop below 65.
Fortunately we are probably a couple of months away from that frozen wasteland event.

We're having HVAC issues, the unit keeps freezing up. We know there's a leak and he needs a complete HVAC overhaul but this a new discovery and I've been told we not getting it fixed. He'll replace it before next summer. He now owes under 12K on the house. So close. We're not real big heat people but hopefully that will at least work so we have the option if we need it.

Sending positive vibes & prayers for your family Sunset!
After a few rainy days it's sunny again and the temp in our house is holding steady at 68 so I'm resisting turning on the 'beast'. I did make sure all the heat vents were all clear of anything blocking them but still have to liberate & vacuum the 2 in-floor air return vents. With 3 dogs and 5 cats in our already dusty old house the vents get pretty hairy over the spring & summer months.

We usually keep the house at 67 during the day and 55 at night, but the heat here has been running for the last week or two.

If he plans to sell the house, it will sell faster with the new HVAC unit. Meanwhile...you could always get some space heaters, but you might want to buy them now - not when the first cold snap hits (stores run out fast and many things are already on backorder due to COVID). I have an infrared heater than has a fireplace look. It takes it a bit to warm up the room but after it does, the room stays toasty with minimal effect on the power bill.

When my house gets down to 65, that is probably when I will turn on my furnace. I am always afraid that my furnace won't work. But I get yearly maintenance check-ups and since I am going with a new company, that won't be until mid-Dec.
I have a Sears home warranty and the company that they sent out last year for a free check-up put in the wrong sized nozzle, which caused a bad oil leak.
I plan to end the warranty.

Really cool decorating idea - she put leaf garlands around tomato cages. You could do this with Christmas garland too. I may have to do this for my balcony and front door. I can get cheap garland at Dollar Tree.

Realistically, I don't see him selling the house anytime soon. It's possible that we could be here forever. It has a known coolant leak, a company has been out twice semi recently to add/refill coolant. They told him the refills could last a few weeks or several months. He was really hoping to just make it through this summer. Looks like he'll just squeak by. No way he'll risk another summer. Fingers crossed the heat is unaffected, maybe we'll test it this weekend to make sure. He has a weird set up, it's a ground unit with a handler in the attic. He's done some research and wants the new unit on the roof. I guess the roof or ceiling will need to be opened to remove (maybe replace?) the handler. There is evidence on the ceiling that this has been done previously at some point. So he's thinking about maybe replacing his roof at the same time. This house will be getting a little love next year Not sure if I mentioned it or not but my roof is FINALLY scheduled to be replaced on Thursday. I'm pretty excited about it and feel good about the company that I picked. Reviews are really good, they've been around for a long time, they've been responsive with questions and HOA forms and the quote was quite a bit less than I was expecting. I don't think my tenants are all too thrilled though... she's a night shift worker but they were given plenty of notice about the inconvenience.

We still have on the air. Set at 68. Still wearing shorts at work. I go kicking into cooler temps.

It was 79° here today, but I totally resisted turning the A/C on. I'm quite stubborn and the furnace doesn't get turned on until it hits about 62° in the house. In the immortal words of my mom, "If you're cold, put a sweater on!"

The big news here today is the grand opening of the light rail extension going from the district several miles north of downtown all the way up to the north end. The rain stopped and it was a nice day for the event - o dont think Metro expected the mobs who showed up - well over 10,000 swarmed onto the system, starting at 4 a.m.! As well thousands of pedestrians and cyclists rode over the new bike-ped bridge. People have been waiting a long time for this. Those of us up here in far north Metro are anxiously awaiting the extension up to us. Day long party - Im out of town so missed it.

I am sooooo glad that I had my huge maple tree cut down. Took so long to mow, mulch, rake, leaf-blow a billion leaves.

Same here. So glad we have no trees except for ones the neighbors have. Will have to see how much ends up in our yard.
After half the summer the idiot next door finally got rid of a paper wasp nest or some other nest that was in his tree but hanging into our yard, making it hard for hubby to cut the grass under it.

Well, here I go again with FedEx. I was supposed to have a package delivered yesterday, then it changed to delivery by end of day today. Status said the package was at the facility (2 1/2 hours away) and supposedly "on its way" since 4:36am. By 7:30pm, no package and no update. Checked around 8pm and status changed to "pending" and estimated delivery from Oct.6-13. I am not happy. Orders from the place I ordered usually goes through SmartPost, which would probably have been faster as the shipment was split in 2 and I received the first box FedEx to P.O. hand off a few days ago.
Update: Still showing "pending delivery" status this morning. To add to my frustration, I tried to sign up for managed delivery to get updates, filled out the online form, clicked "Submit" and got message the system is down and try again later.
