Sorry to hear about your water damage, pyrex. Is your insurance going to cover the repairs, other than your deductible? Hopefully they will. My sister went through this a few years ago when she was out of town and her kitchen sink faucet leaked. Ended up having to replace the kitchen floor as well as the living room and dining room The insurance paid for all of it because it was all the same flooring and couldn't be matched. We aren't 100% sure yet. We are going to have a contractor come look first to see how extensive the damage is (that we can't see yet), then we will decide on a plan. If we have to remove or do anything with the cabinets, I think we will have to file a claim. If not, we might just pay out of pocket as I think our deductible is around 2K anyways.

Oh man, that sounds really bad - I guess those upgrades will come sooner than you think! You may need to tap your insurance - it's costing us over 10k just to replace the five windows in our living room and library. . So I'm glad you do have that fall back!

Sorry to hear about it. If you go through insurance they will jack your rates. We had a shed flipped over in a storm. Had it all on video. Travelers thanked us for filing a claim by jacking our rate up a little. Of course they only gave us $1000. Wasn’t worth the aggravation. They shouldn’t jack rates for a one time claim like that.

Sorry Pyrex. That is a high deductible! But I am sure that your insurance will cover it. I had a washer hose break many years ago when we were on vacation. It flooded my family room and everything was replaced. My insurance didn't go up.

I'm really starting to dislike shopping on Etsy. It's annoying when something comes up on a google search and the price is $2.00 (example) but when you look at the listing, the item you want is $10.00 and the $2.00 was some cheap item added to the selection so that the lowest price showed up in search So that's whats happening!! I saw an ad on Facebook for a Halloween t-shirt that I really liked and I was googling to see if I could find a better price, and it kept coming up on Etsy for like $8 and I was like, wow, how is that so cheap? And when I clicked on it it was like $20 something plus shipping. Well that is irritating as heck and I won't be shopping much on Etsy either. Just vintage probably.
Well they are almost finished with this section of sidewalk, thank goodness. I agree it's really necessary for safety, there's alot of kids walking to school around here. But boy when the city does something it seems they go out of their way to make it hard on everyone
That's awful Pyrex, but I hope you can end up getting a floor and counters that you love

Sorry about the mess and expense, Pyrex and sorry it wasn't noticeable earlier. We've had a garbage disposal flood the kitchen a couple times and that's no fun cleaning up the mess, especially the lower sink cabinets. I hope your insurance picks up most of the tab and you wind up with something a lot better.

I am going outside my comfort zone and trying new walking shoes. I know Chap will back me on this. They make your calves ache until you break them in and get your legs adjusted to them.
I was wearing Brooks Dyads but am going to try Hoka One One Bondi’s which are supposed to be more cushioned and better for the way I walk.
I can name all the different shoes I have worn through the years. They change them so much from year to year.

Hoka One Ones are kind of go-to shoes for distance runners, trail runners and people who are hard on their shoes. My marathon friend is trying them out now and so far he likes them. Definitely would be a good try for the amount of walking and 'foot time' you have, which is considerable. Getting a range of shoes that work is really important and it takes a little trial and error. Hope those work well! You can get Hokas on sale here and there, also. So speaking of being on one's feet, I met my marathon friend yesterday evening for some miles (his course took him all over the north end of Seattle where he lives, and then he ended up miles north of the city, even north of me. He was trying to combine his race with his dog walking and was running with various dogs at one time or another, some of them with quite short legs. His feed conked out so I didn't know where he was and he finally texted me where he was going to be and when. I ended up having to chase him down and that's where I found that he had run danged near into the next county. He was already exhausted from dealing with the dogs and trying to make up time in between walks. I accompanied him halfway home to his house in town, then ran back, picked up the car and went home. Then remembered I had an Orange Theory class that night that I'd forgotten to cancel. Ooops. So I go to class and it's "Inferno Workout" night - OMG - by the time I left I could hardly pick up my feet. I was no great shakes anywhere but at least I have not lost my ability to suffer.

You can always file a claim, then cancel it if the work cost is low enough you don't need the insurance money. I've done that for renters and car claims and never had my insurance premium raised. OTOH, keep in mind that kitchen remodels almost always increase the sales value of the house.

Thanks everyone! We are getting some second opinions. DBF's dad, who has pretty extensive home repair knowledge, thinks the plumber might have been trying to drum up some business for the carpenter he recommended. Our floor is NOT sagging and it may just be superficial water damage. We will need to scrub with Clorox and dry completely and reassess. The other spot I was worried about seems to be a bubbling of the laminate instead of water damage to the subfloor. The flooring still needs redone but we may not have the extensive subfloor damage as previously thought. The plumber, also turned out to be, eh not great. He installed a piece to the shutoff valve upside, f'n down!! THEN to make matters worse, when DBF's dad called him to ask him to explain a few things that we didn't understand he became rude and belligerent. So, we need a new plumber.
As you said though Val, kitchen updates help value so I think we are going to move forward with a few updates. We are going to replace countertops, sink/faucet, and the disposal. Quartz is $$$$ so I think I am going with a laminate, which has come a long ways. I'd love quartz but since we are not replacing cabinetry I can't justify that expense. Also, my house in my area is really what people consider a starter home so I want to be careful to find a balance between not over improving vs paying money for things we will enjoy.

If you and DBF are handy DIYers, there are some really cool treatments you can put over old laminate to make the countertops look like marble or concrete. I have a friend who had two friends do this in their kitchen, one went the concrete look and the other did marble. She posted some pics and the countertops were gorgeous.

Whaaa? So a few minutes ago, someone came to my front door. I heard the Ring chimes. Since it was dark, I didn't open my door and couldn't access the Ring microphone (I have to call Ring about that). So I opened my LR window to talk to whomever.
Anywho, yesterday I ordered from eBay a bottle of Old English scratch cover. And it was drop-shipped from WalMart? Via Door Dash? And how did the seller make anything on it???
I knew that sellers dropship from WM, but this was a first. I paid what WM charges. Weird.

Is it possible that seller also sells on WM, and that's where his inventory was?
WM started using Lyft, Uber and Doordash earlier this year, I think it was, for deliveries where the item is in a local nearby store.

I don't know. But I just checked again, and I paid the seller $1 more than WM charges. They have about 500 items available. But I don't go into dept stores anymore, and my daughter gives me eBay gift cards for the holidays. So I just order everything from eBay....unless Rite-Aid has it.
I guess it was a door-dash guy like those who bring my groceries.

I just realized that I have a lot of gift cards for restaurants that I haven't been to for 1 1/2 years. Hope they stay good for another year or so.
