One seller was charged $26,000+. As usual, Etsy "making commerce human" has not only buried this but is being its usual arrogant self in dealing with it. Cindy is a very reliable poster and stats person:

My niece sent me a link about this last night. Aren't they set to announce quarterly earnings next week? Is this 'glitch' timely enough to show as additional revenue for their stats? My store was closed for 3 weeks this month. I just opened it last Thursday and immediately made 2 sales. Off to check my finances on Etsy and on my bank to make sure I didn't get caught in this one. Shaking my head... just when I think I'm over being mad at them they f up again.

Quarterly earnings being announced now are for the second quarter that ended in June.
Any profit for this month will be reported on the results for the third quarter which will end in September.

I don't trust Silverman as far as I could fart him, but I don't think Esty is trying to goose the profit picture at all - it's just a sloppy, poorly put together site.
But notably, this is the SECOND time something like this has happened and, as the last time, Etsy tried to sweep it under the carpet. It took a lot of effort for some of these people to get the thousands of dollars back that Etsy had hoovered out of their accounts, and Etsy even tried to pass off 'credits' to some of these people.

I'm sorta taking this as a symbolic warning, like 'fool me once or twice shame on you'. And I'm REALLY tired of my selling 'partners' treating their customers so shabbily.
