I am going nuts since I can no longer get into eBay on Edge, since I updated Windows 10 yesterday. I mean, I can get it, but can't click on anything in the site. eBay rep tried, but failed. I called my computer guy...he said it is eBay's fault. Don't want him here since he is the type who thinks that Covid is a hoax.
Was online a long time to chat with Best Buy, gave up.
I can get into Firefox, but it doesn't have my favorites or all of my store categories.
Edge won't let me sign into eBay, says the cookies are blocked (they aren't).

I did all of that, so now I have to look up all of my passwords. Will add what I keep getting on eBay....

Can you go to system restore and just go back a week or so, or before this problem started? Every time an update messes up my computer, I just go back and restore it to a previous date, usually a few days before the mess-up started.

That's what it's supposed to do. If your computer was running fine before the update, it will run fine if the update is removed. I only allow certain important updates to load, I don't allow updates to just auto-load on their own. I pick and choose, as a lot of updates are bloat.

He said that that update was necessary. It took over 2 hours... It wasn't automatic, and I had to choose the time. Is that the bloat kind?

Honestly Denise, I don't know. I have my updates to not download anything to my computer, just to notify me that an update is available. I have the box checked off that says let me choose if I want to download it and install it.
I've had to go back and uninstall a few HP updates that wreaked havoc on my laptop and a few Windows updates, not many, but every once and awhile the updates mess stuff up. Your update could have gotten corrupted while downloading. Maybe try removing it and then re-doing it if you think you really need it.

Have you tried logging into eBay using Chrome?

You can import all your favorites from Edge to Chrome and Firefox.
Honestly, I wouldn't use Edge or IE unless they are the only option.

Have you tried logging into eBay using Chrome? I got my new Lenovo tower last August, and installed Chrome and it completely took over my computer and gave me a new ISP! So no way will I do Chrome again. I am reading that Edge is a problem anyway, and am slowly moving all of my favorites over to Firefox. Meanwhile eBay for business has gotten back to me. I have eBay now on Firefox and everything else is on Edge. And on Edge when I printed out shipping labels, I am able to shrink the size of the packing slip to save on paper. On FF, I can't.

So no way will I do Chrome again. I'm not understanding or maybe you're using incorrect terminology. ISP is your Internet Service Provider, meaning Comcast/Xfinity, Verizon, etc. There is no way Chrome could do that. I'm not sure what Chrome did, but it either wasn't a legit copy of Chrome. Chrome is probably the most stable of all of the browsers. It is run by Google, so it may have changed your default search engine from Bing (which is a Microsoft creation) to Google, but I cannot think of anything else it would change that would wreak havoc on a computer. Sorry that you had a bad experience, as it's definitely the best browser to use. I am in no way affiliated or compensated by Google or Chrome LOL

It no longer recognized me and I had a completely different IP number....my computer guy said that someone took over my computer. He had to do a total restoration. BTW-I wanted to thank you, and I think it was Labby, who urged me to downgrade my store. I went down to Premium from Anchor and my bill is $200 lower now. The problem that I had a few years ago, when my bill on Premium was $600 a month, was because I was running 200 auctions. So I was charged for all of those since they renewed weekly.

Do you mean your IP address? Changing browsers would not change your IP address in most typical situations. However, your sites may have noticed you were using a new browser or a new machine & that's completely normal & typical. It's a pain, but it's normal & you just have to re-enter your ID & PW. I doubt that anyone "took over your computer". BTW, even if it DID change your IP address, there's nothing wrong with that. Some people have a set up where their IP addresses change all the time, doesn't hurt anything. Jeremy is right that Chrome is the most stable & safest browser.
I do what Desire does & pick & choose my updates, but I'm on Win 7. What Desire is suggesting is that you go back to BEFORE the update, so yes, it will render it uninstalled; that's exactly what it's supposed to do. Choosing which updates you want to do is up to you, based on YOUR needs. Many updates may be for things you don't use, so there's no need to do them. It's really up to you. IDK how much flexibility you have to do that with Win10 though.

It honestly did change my IP address. I know mine, and suddenly none of my sites recognized me. I guess that it was malware. My computer was fine for a few weeks, until I decided to download Chrome.
Windows 10 is a completely different animal than Win 7.

Windows 10 is a completely different animal than Win 7. ANY TIME you change browsers, your regular sites will not recognize you. That's normal. It also happens any time you clear out cookies, and sometimes when a browser does a regular update.

What Val said. Just b/c it didn't recognize you does NOT mean it changed your IP address. It's totally normal for it not to recognize you & as she said, it can even happen just from clearing cache/cookies. It also happens sometimes just because, no real reason at all (at least not an obvious one), from time to time. It's annoying to have to re-type your ID & PW's, but it's totally normal.
Also, as I said, even if it DID truly change your IP address, that doesn't hurt anything & is no big deal at all. Many people change IP addresses multiple times a day or every time they log on. Changing your IP addy is fine & actually beneficial for security.
In other words what you're describing, does NOT sound like malware. It sounds totally normal for any kind of update.

Hmmmm, interesting. But I was unable to log into any site no matter what I did. That never happened when I changed other computers.
Next time I will ask here.

And I am still trying to figure out why I was okay for a few weeks with a new computer and Edge. Then I tried Chrome and the crap started.

Like Zoe said, every time I clear cookies out, it clears out all the sites that "recognize" me. Or if I change between IE, chrome or firefox. Many times sites will require an "extra security measure" especially to access my bank account online, they don't recognize me and they have to send me an email, text, or phone call to my device with a code. After I get the code, then I need to input it and then I can log-in.
I can understand the banks doing it, but many times our insurance company also will not recognize me, when all I want to do is pay my insurance premium and all this BS just to log-in to pay a bill. They should not make it so hard to get money from you!

I have deleted my history so many times in the past few days, and it is a PITA to have to re-enter it. But when I had the Chrome problems, all I got was countless capcha's....crosswalks, etc. I couldn't even get in to change my password.
I have the PP extra security to text a code to my cell to get in. But last night on FF, I didn't even have to log in. That isn't good.
This computer will be the death of me.

That is really weird about PP & doesn't make sense. Their timeout is so short that it drives me NUTS! It's like a 3 minute timeout & it gets me constantly. In fact, I even called PP once to see if it's settable b/c I get logged out so frequently, so quickly. Alas, it's not.
It sounds like you were still logged in, but with their 2 or 3 minute timeout, that's unlikely.

I guess it is still Edge, since the rest of my stuff is still there. But it always made me sign in.
