DH paused this for me yesterday when I was in the tub. I signed up for an account but haven't downloaded the app. I'm sort of overwhelmed by the social network aspect of it, is it worth the work? And I didn't realize the fee was 20%. I wonder if these people are shopping in Webster or driving into the city proper to shop?

She's an outlier - there are always these articles about people making yuuge amounts on Poshmark but I think they're in the minority, even though I admire their work and what they've done. It's a lot of work - I do OK on Posh but I source nothing for the site in and of itself - I'm too brand/fashion dumb to do that - I just list stuff on there that doesn't sell on eBay. Having said that, I'm such a minor player there. I've sold maybe 550 items there since I started in Sept 2018 - it's definitely just a supplement.
The social engagement side of it is no big deal IMHO - a lot of sharing and one does need to answer questions, but it's not like it's super chatty, even though some people make it so.
ETA: If you live in an area with lots of outlets like Dillars, or resale like Clothing Mentor, it's easier than if you live where I do and depend on thrifts.

The DH of a friend sells on Posh and is doing awesome. However, he's a total clown and is constantly posting hilarious videos of himself. He ties his Posh in with his regular social media and I think that's a big part of his success. He was not so successful when he was selling on eBay.

It is so easy to list there. I list an item on eBay, then copy and paste to Posh, Mercari, and 4 other sites depending on what the item is. I share during my meals so it doesn't take my computer time. Or during chemo, waiting for appointments.
I price the item at about $5 over what the item on eBay is listed at, which gives me room to lower if an offer is made. But it isn't too high for someone to buy the item outright.
But I only make a few sales a week on there.

That's a good match for Posh - he's working it in an optimum fashion. I tie mine in with social media, also, but mine is pure advertisement with a dash of content - I don't go on insta with items and the like - I probably wouldn't have done even if I were a lot younger - it's just not in my nature, but it sounds like fun! denise15601 I closed my Etsy shop and may start up again on Mercari - I didn't do that well when I was there before, but I didn't really work it much.

The 20% fee probably does not work out to be all that much more than ebay, especially if you are using promoted listings at all. Remember on eBay you are paying fees on the shipping amount received. There was a thread on here that pointed to a seller stat that shows your selling cost as a percent of sales, and mine was actually higher than the 20%. When I did the math, I was still making more on ebay (since I pad my shipping charge slightly), but not by a lot. When you’re making the comparison, remember shipping is not included in your sale price nor do you have to pay for shipping on Poshmark.

In my opinion Poshmark earns that 20%. I have had two return for fit cases that Poshmark closed in my favor without input from me. Early on I had a case opened for a flaw I photo’d and disclosed. It was resolved with no impact to me. Stuff can sit there forever for free too since there’s no insertion fee.

I totally agree - I don't mind paying that fee at all.

On Mercari, there is no sharing or following. I just list and forget it. Obviously, my items are found with a search. So easy to list...just like Posh. And they let you list anything and everything. I closed my Etsy too since I don't want to pay a monthly fee for zero sales.

I was making 10k a year on Etsy then boom - Silverman came in and a year later I'm down to nothing, despite really putting my shoulder to the wheel. He's kind of a twat. I need Mercari to get rid of about 80 kimono fast and a bunch of cheap vintage.

I haven't looked at Mercari but have sewing room odds & ends I need to get rid of. Is there a market for vintage there? I"d list it on Posh but I don't think they do crafty stuff.

I've actually had surprisingly good luck selling miscellaneous lots of craft room supplies on Ebay. Whenever I clean out my craft room/studio, I'll box up a bunch of "like" supplies (i.e. candle making stuff, embroidery stuff, sewing stuff, etc.)in a Medium FRB. I'll either knock a few bucks off the MFRB rate and add it to the price, or offer free shipping with the postage added into the price. Sold fairly quickly!

I don't really wanna learn a whole different venue/system now- I'm just trying to re-home all my duplicate sew & crafting stuff so I can have more space to work. I have 2 full boxes each MFRB & LFRB but wonder if the almost $20 to ship the large size makes offering FS just too much to include with the price. So far I have an embroidery lot, general sewing misc lot, a textile collage lot. I'm working on a doll maker lot but since I make dolls & clothes I have a hard time letting much go. Maybe I'll try a PFRE with an assortment.
