Joe hits it on the nail with this. I myself don't think 'free' shipping will become exclusive internet-wide, there's been too much back pedaling as the real costs emerge, and Silverman saying that disclosure of shipping price is "rubbing it in the buyer's face" is nonsense (half of what he says I've been finding is nonsense). www.marketplacepulse.com/articles/etsys-unapologetic-push-for-free-shipping

Long-term, a separate shipping fee is likely to disappear from all online shopping.
Doubtful. Too many retailers don't have the overhead to support free shipping 24/7. They can raise prices but they risk losing buyers. I don't go by what eBay or any marketplace says I should do regarding free shipping. I go by what my retail competition does, as they are my main competitors, in my niche anyway.

Well, i haven't seen any surge in sales at etsy with my Free Shipping gambit. So, meh. Sales there are quite dismal.

Its all just more Yak, Yak, Yak to try and justify what great and wonderful thing that these guys decide to do.

It's why I like Joe's blog - his speciality is running the numbers - I also think he's wrong about the free shipping thing, but he's right on about Etsy's tactics.
