Things to ask yourself:
* Do you have at least three pictures in the gallery area of your listing? Not embedded in the text, but uploaded to the eBay gallery?
* Have you checked the quality of your pictures against your competition here, and made changes if needed?
* Have you reviewed your various selling categories to see what is selling right now and if you have to change your keywords & prices on current listings, and change the brands you should buy?
* Do you rework stale listings (over 1 year old), cleaning up excess html and updating keywords?
* Are you using your free Terepeak subscription to do research?
* Are you regularly using Promoted Listings?
* Are you running frequent MM sales on some of your items?
* Are you sending offers to watchers?

* Do you rework stale listings (over 1 year old), cleaning up excess html and updating keywords? Val, if I sell similar, does html clean up automatically or is there something I still need to be doing? And by keywords, do you just mean in the title? I have lost track of the place that we could update keywords (at least I think they were called keywords) since it wasn't working when it was being discussed. TIA.

I'm not Val but if you mean HTML links, or stuff that causes your description to be hidden - that can't be done with sell similar because it duplicates your HTML. It needs to be taken out on the HTML screen. I had to do a lot of that both when the site went to encryption and then when eBay disallowed the links I had been putting in for computer manual/instructional pages for my tech (even though it didn't remotely lead to any kind of off-site buying).

Like Chap said, you take out the excess HTML on the HTML tab. eBay adds a lot of garbage HTML on every relist/sell similar and every so often I remove it. I have no idea why eBay does that, but they've been doing it ever since I started selling. As for keywords, I meant in the titles.

Quick and easy way to do it is to just copy your description from the regular view, switch to the HTML window and erase everything in the HTML window, then switch back to regular view and paste your description. When I did all of my overhauling I had to do the steps in order or I tended to lose my own HTML that I had written into my description (I have a very simple Word template that I use which has the same HTML that eBay uses so it's 'legal' and mobile friendly).

I forgot that we were getting Terapeak, just looked for the app on my iphone and don't see one. This would be most helpful for when out sourcing inventory. I think Liz once posted about something similar that was an app. Anyone know or remember?
Well, never mind. The Terapeak website looks to be mobile friendly but not really user friendly. Can only access through Ebay, no way to save the page on my phone and extremely small font makes it really difficult to see even with my glasses on. Grrrr. Oh well, a step in the right direction I guess.

I've had a Terapeak membership on and off for years - I found it only modestly useful. eBay has stripped it and re-adapted it, so it may be more accessible now in use with eBay itself. I use pocket auctions and the DH uses the regular eBay site for checking things when we're thrifting. I've found Terapeak most useful when I'm checking prices for older items I have in my store, adjusting inventory, etc.
The caveat in all of this is that I tend to sell non-mainstream stuff and I strongly suspect that's why I didn't find it as useful as many do. I used to use Worthpoint, too.
ETA: The site Liz mentioned I think was called something like "Completely", but only written for iPhones, not android. So far I haven't seen it for Android, but if it ever comes out, I'll use it.

I rejig listings after 90 days if they haven't sold, or just take them down. I only have old summer stuff running now because eBay had that 500 free listings at the end of December and I didn't want to bother taking to time to rejig off-season stuff - a handful sold. As soon as they lapse I won't be relisting them anyway until March when I rejig them, then redo in July - after that, they'll either be sold on eBay, elsewhere or I'll redonate a lot of them.

I ended almost 300 listings and have been working to relist them: Three pictures-check Quality of pictures-check (cleaning them up as I relist) Check categories/keywords/prices-never been good with keywords but I am lowering prices. Change the brands you purchase-N/A Rework stale listings/clean up html-forgot all about html. Will have to go back and clean up the ones I've done but will remember for the ones I have yet to relist. Terapeak-no research, just lowering prices. Promoted listings-nope, not going there. Would rather give the buyer the discount than give ebay more money. MM-haven't done a MM sale for a long time but will keep it in mind for the future as I strive to sell off my stuff Sending offers-yes, most of the stuff I'm selling is on offers but only getting one or two to do per day as I have sent offers on all the ones that were eligible. Did get a $100 sale today without an offer--woohoo! Thanks for bumping this, val2525. I would hate for all of my work to have been in vain if html affects the sales (I guess that would be because it affects the placement of listings in search?)

I don't think that extra HTML affects sales as long as there is nothing 'illegal' in there - i.e., off site links/non-secured, etc. That I had to get rid of.

Did get a $100 sale today without an offer--woohoo! I admit, I don't use Terepeak - I'm too impatient to figure out how to maximize it. Eventually though, I suppose I'll have to learn it. I had the "I don't want to give eBay any more money attitude" too until Zoe posted about her results with PL. She was right, too - it does increase sales if you have it on enough items. Just a few won't cut it. At the minimum, convert a listing category to PL. I use Promoted Listings on almost everything, even if it's just 3%-5%. On lower priced items, I set the % so that the fee is less than $1. My sales have increased since I've been using PL, and the profit is higher than before even after I pay the PL fee. You only pay the fee when the buyer buys from the PL listing, but often the PL listing will bring buyers to your other items. If they buy from your store or non-PL search result, there is no PL fee. I don't mind giving eBay a little bit more if it nets me a lot more. my PL fees on December sales were 2.2% of total sales. That's chicken feed. I adjust my item price when I list so that it includes the PL fee, a 10% MM sale, and room to make offers to buyers. The higher prices have not hurt sales, either. Quite a few items will sell at the listed price, with no MM sale, no offer and no PL fee. I try to send offers on everything eligible daily. I don't get all that many sales from it, but enough of the older listed stuff sells on offers, and it's stuff I want to get rid of, so I continue to send offers.

I have no idea if this means anything but will pass along my observation. Used to be that when I copied the verbiage and moved to the html tab, I had to remove the code from the html tab and then go back to the first screen to paste what I had copied. Then I happened to "cut" (Ctrl V) the verbiage instead of Ctrl C, and the html tab only had the return code <br>. I tried it a few times, and it was consistent so now I am just doing the Ctrl V and then Ctrl C and not even going to the html tab at all.

Terapeak isn’t that as good as it was when I had a subscription about 5 years ago and before. The advantage it has is that it is accurate with sold prices from offers to buyers. I wish they included the description, condition or IS fields from listings too old to look at. That makes the sold price on something with few comps that are aged out not very helpful.

I just copy/paste now and I'm not concerned about the HTML gubbins - it was only when I was putting in links for manuals and instructions that it got so bad (the links would stack) - once I had to stop doing that I didn't bother with it - the only time I use the HTML tab is on really old templates to get rid of the embedded photo code without disturbing the rest of the template description. I think cut/paste works just as well.

As I go through the once over 900 listings that needs IS updates, I am checking at the bottom of each description. I still have InkFrog banners hidden down there so I have to remove them. The banners aren't otherwise visible.

I've noticed IS missing on several of my listings and some of these listings are fairly current.

It is STILL not fixed, and on top of that many of the IS we DO see are irrelevant. But apparently eBay has decided that it's fixed and will now wander off to mess something else up.
