And for the basil, freezing it is an awesome way to have it year round (I do it in small ice cube trays).

Agree with the Basil. I especially love the Italian Basil. And freezeit too...in ice cube trays so it makes it easy to just pop one or two into soups or stews without thrawing...same with baking you just pop it into the dish or with the meat.
I also grow Rosemary and it's pretty easy. freeze it the same way.
Chives are great also! There is nothing better than getting up Sunday morning and popping in a fresh loaf of French bread, getting the gresh chives and adding to to scrambled eggs! Add a piece of gouda or havarti to the table and you you have a wonderful breakfast!

I make pesto with basil & freeze it in ice cube trays also. Here's my chives this year...already has buds & I have done nothing. I honestly wish it would just die b/c I don't use that much in chives, but it grows like crazy with no effort at all.
eta; I guess it's hard to tell from that angle. It's already about 6" tall & is budding. BTW, the flowers are edible & are pretty to add to a salad.
