Back on 8/13 I got a call from my vet's office that one of their clients had brought in a cat and her four kittens. She wanted to have the momkat spayed and the 4 kittens euthanized because her husband would shoot the kittens if she brought them back home. The client was in the office crying hysterically because she couldn't take the 3 week old kittens back home.
My vet does not euthanize healthy animals ever..not at all..no matter what. So, they called me and when I heard about the shooting part I was in the car on the way to pick them up. I was told that they were eating on their own but, of course, they weren't so long story short, I went back and got the momkat, Summer, the next day after she had been spayed.
Here they are when I first took them.
Summer and Solo, the only boy.

Thank goodness Summer turned out to be a great mom because I totally suck at bottle feeding. I couldn't have done it without her.
Last Monday Summer went on a transport to a small no-kill shelter in Aspen, Colorado where we have been watching her on their kitty cam in their cat room. She is a great cat and will have no problem finding a great home there.
The kits are now around 5 weeks old and are eating on their own, thank goodness. We are taking preadoption deposits on them now although they won't be released to foster pending adoption for another week at least.

Awwww, Kritter, your heart is as big as all of Texas! Hope it wasn't painful for Summer to have the kits nursing, with her spay incision not fully healed.

Tabby, she seemed to be fine with it. I was a little concerned too but apparently it was a non issue for her. I guess she knew that I would be no help and she was right.
She was such a good mom that I couldn't get them weaned with her here so when the Aspen opportunity presented itself, we were all over it.

Is it true that only girls can be 3 colors or more?
Loving the kitties, I wish I could foster but my husband isn't having it because he knows I would fall in love and keep them.

DS's GF gave Rusty a good grooming job this past weekend, cut his nails and good brushing, ear cleaning, new collar, the works. She said we need a new kitty here.
Aren't the male calicos the rare cats? My father used to always say that - we had a beautiful female calico and I remember that subject being discussed way back when I was a kid.

Yes, tricolor kittens (calicos and torties) are females. The occurrence of male calico cats is theoretically impossible. Because the X chromosome is responsible for both orange and black fur, female cats can display both colors because they have two X chromosomes. But males, having only one X chromosome, can be either orange or black. For a male cat to have a calico pattern, the feline has to have three sex chromosomes: two Xs and a Y.
Just got an application and talked to the adopter for Sophie and Sadie. They have never had baby kittens before so I am going to keep them in foster for another 7-10 days to make sure they are good to go.
Two down--two to go.

Solo is my favorite. As soon as he sees me, he follows right behind me like a little duckling. He is definitely the most outgoing of them.

Exactly what I thought. How could you live with somebody that would even consider shooting a domestic animal just because you didn't want them around?
It just pisses me off every time I think about it.
My vet wouldn't tell me who the client was because I might know them but when I got Summer's paperwork I saw who had paid her bill. Thank goodness I don't know them because I would have had to speak up if I did.

Just once would be all you'd need.
Sadie is my favorite so I hope her new home is awesome.

Just talking to the the lady last night, I think Sadie's home will be awesome.
It is the husband and wife and two boys, 9 and 12. They don't want to take them until we are sure that they are ready to go. She asked about coming to visit them and I told her that I was not set up for that but I would send the boys some pics as we went along. She apologized for asking.
The deal was that they could pay the adoption fee of $100 each and we would fully vet the kittens or they could pay for their spays plus shots plus microchip which would be way over $100 plus we would need confirmation from my vet that the appointment was scheduled and the necessary followup completed.
She wants to go the vet route because they wants to get them started with their vet records right away. She also agrees that they will be indoor only. Sadie will have an awesome home.

LOL He could be but Yogi has never been a dad.
Yogi has been with me since 4 days after he was born and was neutered as soon as he made his 2 pound weight.

Yogi needs a little brother to raise... Yogi has Murphy. That is one lil bro too many as it is.
Solo has been invited to the local National Night Out on 10/2 at the local police/fire station. He is going to promote TNR and the city foster program.
I was hoping Solo would be gone to the rescue by then but I guess that is not going to happen yet.

He just made his 2 pound weight so he is ready to be neutered and move along into his life.
