I now have had, in the past week, five attempts to hack into my Tradesy account - from all over the country and on a number of different devices. Tradesy does the right thing by sending me an email with IP location and device asking if this is authorized or not. If it is not authorized, my account is locked until I change my password. I duly change my password (today I got two emails within a short period of time).
This just started when I began listing more things on there again.
I've contacted Team at Tradesy asking them what is going on as this seems new, and these repeated hacking attempts are beginning to make me doubt the security of the site.
Has anyone else had this happening?

When is the last time you did a virus scan and malware scan on your computer?

I have Norton Security and Malwarebytes on my computers. Malwarebytes will catch many intrusions and a notice pops up. It's free to download and it's a good program. I purchased the PRO version last year because it got my laptop back on track after a problem that Norton never caught.

I have Norton security and enterprise virus software on my computer - I had to have the top drawer stuff because I used to do data mining for a living which is one of the #1 ways to get all kinds of garbage on your system - I've had no notifications at all of probing (Norton will notify me of just about anything - that's what is so weird). My system is scanned on bootup.
That's a good idea to run a separate scan, though - security is really tight on my machine and I did the usual maintenance stuff but something might have slipped through.

Try another antivirus program. They aren't all created equal and having couple doesn't hurt. AVG has a free version and it has caught stuff before that other programs on my computer missed.
Do you have MalwareBytes or a similar program on you computer? Run that too.

If you have two antivirus programs on your computer, make sure you don’t ever run them simultaneously. You can risk not just having all your resources sucked dry, but you can have system files get corrupted too. Sometimes the virus one finds is in fact part of the other antivirus program. I’m not a pro, but my last job had me opening and downloading a lot of other peoples files. Our computer guy had me set up with an antivirus (to keep the crap out) and then to frequently run Windows malicious software removal tool (to remove anything that slipped through. ) I am currently doing some side work doing email auditing and I’m inside several mailboxes using my personal laptop and have to open all mail. Their #1 advice to me is to make sure my antivirus is up to date on a regular basis and run the malicious software removal tool after each session.

I have AVG and Malwarebytes and I've thought about running them together to save time, but I never have. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, you don't want to run them at the same time because one may detect files from the other as malicious, etc. I did run Malwarebytes and it found some PUP files and a couple of unactivated Trojans, but no big deal. Still, I had them quarantined. So far all has been OK, but I haven't had any activity on Tradesy, either. I'll keep an eye on things. If there are more problems I'll disable the Norton and run AVG - if no one here who uses tradesy as been having this problem, then I think it's local which is what I had been wondering. kat When I was data mining I had to run scans all the time, so I know what you mean. Also, I hate to ask this, but this place where you're doing email auditing - is it a regular firm? I'm still looking for work and so far can only get really awful paying voice work.

Yes, it's for PG&E. One of the largest utility companies in California. I don't even know what the position is called or if it has a name. I lucked out to get it and I'm hoping it will end up turning into more work and being employed by them rather than doing this as an independent contractor. What kind of voice work? Like the voice on pre-recorded customer service or for radio/tv?

It's for a firm that does translations - they farm out work to people with various accents/dialects/languages and collect the voice files to improve their speech recognition. A friend of mine who used to be a reader for the blind and have a radio show translates computer code into French for this company and started also picking up this work, but it's crowd-sourced so the pay is pretty bad, and they often pay in Amazon gift cards, which I can't really use.

I'm not sure that's even legal. Do they set the time/dates/etc that you have to work? They give the assignments and a deadline and after the work is submitted, they ship you the cards (if that's how they pay). It's a French company so I'm not sure what rules it operates under. I've only had paypal deposits and very few of those (I don't do work for them anymore, too low paying). My friend gets quite a few gift cards I think. He does work regularly for them, though, so he's also just paid for it. ETA: Since my friend translates for them, anyway, picking up these little voice jobs isn't any big deal for him, he just sends those files with the rest and is set up already, but he says it's kind of not worth it except he really needs the money (66, lost the roof over his head and his job and is living on a divorce settlement, SS and doing translation work).
