It used to be true that almost everything would sell eventually, but search being the way it is now, it’s definitely not true anymore.
Adding to that, prices on many items have fallen so drastically, in my case catching me “by surprise” (meaning, for example, I wouldn’t research the price on a pair of Gloria Vanderbilt jeans when I would list them for the same price I had listed them for years, which beat B&M stores but was now being undercut on ebay by $10 or more). Even though stuff was sitting, I was blaming search and not making needed adjustments to prices. Then from stuff posted here, I began to realize stale items are likely hurting my new items as far as search placement goes so I started slashing prices on the older items and just recently have boxed up two large boxes of NWT stuff to send to swap.com figuring they are going to get more traffic at the same price I had slashed my items to. My portion will mean I am only mean I am recouping my cost, but the hope is it will improve the search placement on the newer stuff.
However, we’ve speculated about it before that not everything is being included in search results. As a buyer, I might want to pay $19.99 for a specific pair of GV jeans versus $9.99 for the only ones I see in my search results. Looking for specific item in swap.com’s ebay store, I really feel I found items I don’t see doing the same search in ebay. I don’t like being limited to what ebay wants to show me—I want more choices, not less.
So I believe the stale stuff hurts ebay, but I don’t think as much would be stale if all buyers saw everything that is for sale. I’m ready to buy tops for spring, but I’m not getting much by way of selection for what I’m looking for, and I just don’t believe it’s not because stuff is not listed.
