Yep. My brother lived there when it first opened in the 70’s.

It always makes me shudder when I read about a parking garage collapse because it makes me think of the Champlain Towers condominiums in Florida that started with pool leaking into the garage and half the building collapsed without warning. I would really hate for that to happen again anywhere.

The concrete is old, the lake is right there, the parking lot was crumbling and I am guessing the weight of the water was the final straw.

Um, Denise, did you mean to post your GS picture AND full name on a public forum? Do you want it moved to the private area?
Now I know what CPS Energy considers a brownout and/or power conservation event. I wondered why my A/C wasn't running a few mintutes ago. Ends up it was my turn for CPS to lock my thermostat. It will set to X temp and show flashing until the "event" is over, then return to whatever temp you had it set to. Annoying but interesting, and I suppose it was better than a total blackout since everything else continued working.

Another round of storms last night. 200,000 without power in NE Ohio. Most of the major damage is NE of us, but lots of power outages including around us so very grateful our power's remained on throughout both days. DH just sent message from his phone that internet is down at work from downed trees. Up to 6" of rain and even areas that never flooded has residents with water in basements. You know it's bad when the roof blows off a church: fox8.com/news/live-updates-impacts-after-another-night-of-damaging-storms/

We had bad storms here too. My power was off from 2am to 8am. Tons of trees and wires down. Didn't see the news yet to see the damage in my area. So many lightning strikes!

We missed out on any rain/storms but we had the 100 degree heat with over 70% humidity for the last 2 days. I'd never make it down south. I'd just melt into a giant puddle. Give me -20° any day. I can deal with the cold, but not the heat. It's better today, but still humid. Weekend is looking better yet. We still need rain though.
(You know it's hot when it's 88° in the garage and it feels COOL compared to outside! lol)

5 tornadoes touched down in different counties. Closest to us was probably 45 minute drive. DH's friend called, said he got 4" of rain in his basement that ruined the hot water heater. Some residents might not get power restored until Aug.30th. fox8.com/news/ef1-tornado-confirmed-in-cleveland-overnight/

Except for November/early December our rain just drizzles down - you guys have some hellacious downpours! I'm glad everyone is still OK!
The DH is doing his Mt Baker mountain race (he's probably afraid to show his face around here if he bails lol) and had his last training ride up a high ridge on the Penninsula. It was gray and drizzling, then he comes down here and it's smokey and sticky. We're heartily tired of El Nino and hot sun - after this week we're hoping it will be gone.
Our house is now bright blue BLUUUUUUUUUUEEEEEE. They're still working, very meticulously, with the neighbour's shrubs covered in light plastic and all the windows now swathed. The soffits are repaired and they'll probably finish the trim tomorrow - they work really fast but in a very organised fashion. With the blue paint on the edges of the plastic the air is slightly blue inside, too - it feels like being in a cocoon.

I feel bad for garbage pickup next week. I'm sure there will be a lot of wet carpet and other stuff from basements that got soaked beyond redemption. Besides that, there's still lots of areas without power due to downed trees and branches. DH said it was weird not having internet all day and local SIL says hers went out around 3pm but came back later. We have been really fortunate once again. These storms, downpours and tornadoes are rare, thankfully.
Chap, can you post a pic of the house? Sounds purty.

I will post photos - can't wait to see the finished product! We'll have dark blue trim.
They're also going to paint our bedroom, so we have to haul furniture around to clear it out. I'm getting rid of my big, clunky desk as I don't need it anymore, as I no longer work three jobs and require two computers and a KVM switch to manage it all. It's one of those cheap particle board affairs and has already had bits falling off of it down through the years. No thrift around here will take it in donations and it's too big to put out on the side of the road, so I'm going to break it down and take it to the transfer station and dump it. I'll get my original little actual wood desk back from the DH who commandeered it for his sub-office in the bedroom, so that will take place when we clear out the bedroom for painting. Gawd, it feels good to get rid of stuff! So far I'm the one most active in the divestiture, and the DH is getting a little embarrassed that he's starting to own most of the stuff in the house. He immediately stopped hassling me about the battle ropes I found by the side of the road when I pointed this out.
Blackberry season is rolling in - lots of rear-ends poking out of the endless blackberry vines that line our roads as people pick berries. I've seen every sort of person, including men and women in business attire with their briefcases next to them filling up tupperware, kids with bowls and bags all picking together (and eating half of what they pick lol) and everybody else. Blackberry vines are actually considered a real nuisance here as they grow like crazy, crawling into the roads and all over people's yards, but the berries are good!

Oh wow, DH has a blackberry bush and they are ready in May here! Well I guess that's a good thing; with this drought they probably wouldn't have had such a big yield as they did. If any at all! And I was able to bring mom some
I planted 4 azaleas in the spring, none of them made it. I had four already established ones at least 8 years old and so far only one is left. Roses are a lost cause. Knock on wood Hibiscus is hanging in there. They are saying a 60% chance of rain Monday, I'll believe it when I see it. They start mandatory water restrictions for the city tomorrow. Tomorrow they are predicting a high of 110 degrees, the highest temperature ever recorded here. My water bill was almost $30 more than my light bill.
Well the fun news for me on Monday is the Bosch dishwasher is due to be delivered. Not sure if it comes with the plug and/or hose, but I guess I'll see when it gets here. At least I have a working dishwasher until I can get those if necessary.
We are planning a trip to the bins tomorrow. I have packed Advil and my back cushion for the ride home

Jes-enjoy that new DW!
I am in PA and we had a late spring hard frost, so apparently that is why my flowering shrubs aren't very good this year. Last year, everything was great.
My butterfly bushes and hydrangeas aren't blooming nearly as well. My one hydrangea is finally flowering...very late! And my azaleas only had a few flowers. My tiny wine ninebark died.
My Clethra, however, were really great this year.

Desire - fresh baked pies are really best, anyway! I come from a pie family - we don't have birthday cakes, we have birthday pies lol.
We spent several hours breaking down the big desk in my study, unscrewing all the parts and lugging them downstairs so they form a flat, then take it all to the transfer station - one side of the desk just fell apart when I started moving it. Then we moved my original actual wood desk (smaller) into my room - that desk had been loaded with VOIP and router equipment. I think the hardest task was the nest of wires both the DH and I had to deal with, and having to reposition equipment. I still use a desktop and a laptop as a secondary machine (they're often both going), and have a bunch of peripherals. The DH was kind enough to reconnect most of my equipment while I unbolted bits of desk, which I appreciated. All I had to do was hook together my sound system. We'll do more furniture moving once the bedroom is painted. I had NOT looked forward to doing this chore, so when the DH suddenly popped into my study and suggested it, I jumped right on it - get it out of the way!

The veggie ones look like what I get at WM-Veggies Made Great. I love the chocolate ones of that brand, of course. The Veggies Made Great superfood veggie cakes are really good, but they're more veggie & egg. The Ikea ones are potato, veggie and cheese (no eggs) so it's a different taste and texture. They're both really good though and I usually have them in the freezer. I often have the VMG cakes for breakfast. Tasty fast breakfast that sticks with me for a while. Win/win! I'm ordering the last (I hope LOL) of my indoor Christmas decorations today. After that I have several business tax returns to do. But at least I don't have to constantly check email for client messages so I'm good with working today. Plus I'm taking Friday off for a nice long Labor Day weekend Can you believe it's Labor Day already? I found a set of 3 raccoon ornaments. If they go on sale closer to Christmas, maybe I'll buy a set and give it to the apartment office for the office Christmas tree Is DH getting a new desk, Chap, since you took yours back?
