I was on a train once going through a very rough part of outer London. A woman got on with a small cat carrier. One of the guys sitting near her, a big, rough looking blokey kind of dude, says "What you go in there, then?" She opens it up further and a little black paw steps out, and a little black cat face peers out. Immediately the guy and a few others, who were also pretty rough looking, were crowding around, going "Awwwww…." faces melted into darling grins - one even gripped his hands together. I was looking over the back of the seat admiring, too, of course, but it was so funny to see! I would NOT have wanted to encounter any of those people in a dark alley - unless I had a cat in a carrier.
